Break The Stigma

May 21, 2018

Back in November when I started this platform, my intention was to share the things that were on my mind. I hoped that people would be willing to use this platform to do the same.

One of the first guest articles that came in was titled "Invisible Cycles", written by Sir Tyson. The article was centered on Mental Health in the Black community and how it is an ongoing issue that is often overlooked. The article truly opened my eyes and made me realize the significance of bringing awareness to this topic.

I'm a person that believes in being TOUGH throughout all of the challenges that life will throw our way. What does toughness look like? Sometimes it can look like swallowing your pride and asking for help. Whatever you're experiencing, I promise that you're not the only one, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

There's a stigma surrounding mental health and asking for help (especially within the Black community). The stigma is that asking for help is a sign of weakness, when in actuality, asking for help is one of the TOUGHEST things that one can do. Read "Ask If  You Need Anything", another great article on this platform that is aimed at encouraging people to seek help when they need it.

Over the weekend Through2Eyes traveled up to South Bend, Indiana to participate in their Community Mental Health Awareness Fair. Our message was simple, let's BREAK THE STIGMA associated with Mental Health and asking for help.

We were honored to be part of such an inspiring and educational event. We want to give a big thank you to Marla Godette, Macedonia Baptist Church and all of the participants and vendors that made the experience so amazing! Check out all of the pictures below!

Together we can BREAK THE STIGMA!
