The video that leaked from the fraternity at Syracuse is troubling simply because it was clearly intended to remain private. The boys on tape belonged to the frat Theta Tau, an engineering fraternity that was founded in 1904.
ThetaTau.org - Theta Tau has become the oldest and largest Fraternity for Engineers, with chapters across the country, and members around the world. Our mission is to develop ENGINEERING LEADERS for Service, Profession, and Brotherhood.
Here's that video I was talking about, skip to 3:00 for the SUPER racist part:
"I solemnly swear, to always have hatred in my heart for niggers..."
To be honest, I didn't even know what "spic" or "kike" meant until I looked it up after this video (I know what nigger means). I don't blame the frats for directly teaching this behavior, but the fact of the matter is that this is where the behavior is most likely to be found and most likely to grow.
Frats are rich in history, rich in tradition and at times can be stuck in the past. When we look at the history and traditions of our nation... there's A LOT of racism that's back there. Plenty of us are working to bury it, while others are actively trying to keep it alive.
A couple of years ago, members of Oklahoma University's SAE fraternity were caught on video chanting some wild racist shit. They learned the chant at a national leadership event, SOME (or many) fraternities have no problem being racist.
"There will never be a nigger in SAE..."
Washington Post - SAE’s national leaders confirmed that members of its former Oklahoma chapter likely learned the racist chant while attending a national Leadership School about four years ago.
Frats are in trouble, and although they can be very charitable and loving organizations, they're being shut down and suspended all across the country. No one truly knows what's being taught within "frat culture" and soooo many people allow it to happen and never say a word.
I don't know if any of the kids in either video even actually believe what they're saying. They're simply repeating racist rhetoric because that's what they're instructed to do. This is how racism gets passed down through generations like folklore. People that are too weak to break the chain of ignorance allow themselves to become a part of it.
We live in a world where everyone is trying to control how we think, and how we see. If you're going to college, just to let some other college kids encourage you to be racist... WTF are you doing!? Go be racist at home, don't bring all that hatred with you when you go to school.
