BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT - March Madness, where do I begin? The first question I ask myself is, does the NCAA selection committee even watch basketball or are they computer nerds who crunch numbers and decide that a non-conference game in the month of November means more than a whole season? More on that later.
Next, let’s move to the format of the NCAA Selection Show, it was trash. Congratulations you messed up something so simple as revealing a bracket, if it ain’t broke don’t break it. The talent’s audio was delayed, the alphabetical order had me doing quick math about which bubble teams didn’t make it and the live audience was annoying. Speaking of the bubble teams that got selected, they are all trash, two of them in particular. I think you get where I am going with this asessment of the NCAA Selection Show, TRASH. Take those teams and your bracket to the dumpster because this tournament is going to be wild.
Let’s start with the LAST FOUR teams that made the tournament, St. Bonaventure, UCLA, Arizona State and Syracuse, excuse me while I spit out my coffee in disbelief. SYRACUSE made the tournament, are you serious? St. Bonaventure was a lock to me after an amazing season led by a dynamic backcourt duo of Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley and so was UCLA who came out of the weak Pac-12 but are led by Aaron Holiday who is a walking bucket. Arizona State and Syracuse is where I have a problem and in particular Syracuse but where I really have a problem is where the NCAA selection committee had Oklahoma and Texas comfortably in the tournament both locking in 10 seeds.
Oklahoma, Arizona State, Syracuse and Texas made it over Notre Dame, Baylor, Saint Mary’s and Oklahoma State, I am baffled. Oklahoma State beat Kansas TWICE, West Virginia on the road, Texas Tech, Florida State, Texas and Oklahoma TWICE who are all dancing in March. How is that team out of the tournament? Notre Dame missed Bonzie Colson the majority of the season and was completely different with him on the floor (look at the end of the season and the ACC Tournament) and they were snubbed. Sorry Torres, I really thought you would be in there.
Saint Mary’s lost five games this year and didn’t get a bid, Baylor was solid in the Big 12 and I could go on and on about teams who didn’t make the tournament who should have but what it comes down to is that I am convinced the NCAA selection committee doesn’t actually watch basketball. They take teams with high strength of schedules and put mediocre teams in the tournament who play in big conferences just because they play good teams all the time and lose. Syracuse was 20-13 this year and won four games against teams that are in the tournament this year, Buffalo, Virginia Tech, Miami and Clemson. Look at Oklahoma State, see how many teams they beat? ARE YOU SERIOUS NCAA COMMITTEE?
Since I can’t change the NCAA Tournament, let’s break it down...
