First and foremost, I DO NOT CARE about the 2nd amendment, that's why I say very LOUD and CLEAR..... BAN ALL GUNS. The intent of the 2nd Amendment was never for us to have guns to protect us from each other, however, that's what this debate has turned into. Americans need guns in order to properly defend themselves against other Americans.
1791 -James Madison adds the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution
A WILD TIME WITH WILD LAWS
The 2nd Amendment - A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
America had no formalized military at the time they declared their independence. The young country relied on citizens of each state to join militias in order to fight against foreign adversaries or the oppression of their own government. Speaking of oppression, when the 2nd Amendment was written, many black people were still slaves, and even those living in free states like Indiana, still couldn't join the militia even if they wanted to. It's not hard to argue that many policies from the 1700's are simply outdated.
The original intent of the law was to ensure that in a time of crisis, citizens could band together and use their weapons to defend themselves against their own government or against the military of any other nation.
These are some of the guns that were around from the early to mid 1800's:
Fast forward to 2018 and the United States has the most powerful formalized military in the world. The need for militias is over; citizens now bear arms to protect themselves from other citizens. There is an overwhelming lack of trust amongst the people that we share this country with.
I don't own a gun, and I don't need a gun to feel safe, I've seen guns do too much harm to ever want one. The guns being used today are much more sophisticated that those that were used in the past. The AR-15, the gun responsible for the recent tragedy in Parkland, Florida, is capable of firing anywhere from 500-650 rounds of ammunition per minute.
If a complete ban on guns is too much to bear, how about a ban on modern guns? These modernized weapons allow for people with ill intentions to execute acts that take children away from their parents, brothers away from their sisters, and common trust away from the American people.
If this current presidency is all about putting America first, then let's make sure we do that, by protecting America's children, and showing that we can move past an amendment that serves no purpose in 2018.
